Celebrity Pantyhose Tribute

Heidi Klum just reminded everyone what tights can do when they stop being an accessory and become the outfit. For Calzedonia’s new campaign, posted on Instagram on 12 October, she skipped trousers entirely: a fitted burgundy blazer, a matching sheer lace layer underneath, and floral-patterned sheer tights running all the way down into pointed-toe burgundy heels. The result is power dressing with the volume turned up. The structured blazer does the tailoring work while the delicate lace does the talking, and because everything sits in one rich wine-red palette, the legs look impossibly long. That seamless run from thigh to pointed toe is the oldest trick in the hosiery book, and Klum shows exactly why it still works.

Why This Look Lands

Three things make it more than a photoshoot gimmick.

First, the monochrome. Head-to-toe burgundy erases every visual break, so the eye travels the full length of the leg without stopping. If you want your legs to look longer, matching your tights to your shoes is the single most effective move you can make.

Second, the texture contrast. Crisp blazer fabric against intricate floral lace keeps the outfit from going flat. Sheer patterned tights add depth that opaque tights cannot, because light moves through them and the pattern shifts as you do.

Third, restraint everywhere else. Hair loose in soft waves, clean studio backdrop, glossy pumps in the same shade. Nothing competes with the hosiery, which is precisely the point.

How to Wear It Yourself

You do not need a campaign budget or Klum’s legs. You need three things:

  1. Sheer patterned tights in a deep colour. Floral lace is the campaign choice, but any intricate pattern works. Burgundy, oxblood and wine shades are everywhere this season.
  2. Shoes in the same shade. Pointed toes stretch the line even further. Glossy finishes echo the campaign’s polished feel.
  3. Something structured on top. An oversized or fitted blazer in a matching or neutral tone balances the sheerness below. The blazer is what makes it fashion instead of lingerie.

Wear it for an evening out, a fashion event, or anywhere you want the tights to be the first thing people notice.

Part of a Bigger Sheer Moment

This is not a one-off for Klum. Earlier this month she fronted an Intimissimi campaign in delicate lace, and in September she closed out Vogue World: Milano in a sheer black embroidered lace gown. Sheer dressing is having a sustained moment, and patterned tights are its most wearable form. A gown is a red-carpet decision; tights are a Tuesday decision.

The takeaway is simple: stop treating your sheer tights as the supporting act. Give them the blazer, the matching heel, the clean backdrop of a simple outfit, and let them do what they were made to do.
